Buick Invitational Week Underway

Made it down to San Diego on Sunday night and have just been working out and getting my game together since Palm Desert. Thrilled to have shot that opening round 60 but definitely disappointed with my scoring from there. What's done is done and now it's on to the Buick Invitational - on the course I grew up playing, Torrey Pines.

The South course at Torrey has been greatly renovated as they're gearing up for the 2008 US Open - so it's much more challenging - but I still look forward to getting after it this week.

Played a practice round with good buddy Todd Fischer today and had D.A. Points joint us a few holes into things. Weather was great and definitely happy with how all aspects of my games are going right now. Really hoping to shine this week.

After the practice round, I participated in the Skills Challenge alongside Tom Pernice, Woody Austin, Chris Smith, Matt Gogel, Chris Riley and Kevin Stadler. Won one of the chipping contests, but Austin won the little tourney. A few hundred people showed up to check it out and it seemed like they had a good time.

The San Diego Union Tribune had a piece on my website today. Mentioned the site, logo, music, links and all the other good stuff. Glad we are getting some positive publicity there. For those of you who have been to the site and have inquired about the apparel line - we do have some shirts made and they're available for $20 (plus S&H.) We did a batch for the Buick and will have more in the coming days. Email my guy Chris and he'll get you squared away. Next up are the hats - which should be in by February.

I really enjoyed today's shootout. It was a great idea to mix past champions with some of our San Diego Junior Golf products.

I was rather disappointed that Phil Mickelson CHOSE not to participate as he is not only a past champion, but also learned this game through our San Diego Junior Golf system.

Has San Diego's favorite son forgotten his roots?

I also noticed that Mickelson wasn't there - and wasn't there the past few years. Sort of like he turns his nose up at what he probably thinks is a gimmicky event, or that it's beneath him.

The guys that were out there yesterday were a good group. Chris Riley seemed humble and laid back, while Pat had a good sense of humor regarding his scoring last week. I heard Hank Bauer make reference to PP shooting 60 when those kids were out there putting. He told the kids that was the putter Pat used to shoot 60 -- to which Pat replied, "I also shot a 79 with it as well." Cool that he could make light of it.

Tom Pernice seemed pretty cool - as did Woody Austin. I just can't picture Mickelson in that mix. He'd have stuck out like a sore, smug thumb.
