San Diego, Scottsdale, Philly & New York

PP checking in from the road... again. Most people get a few weeks off and they lounge at home. Not me. I'm too wound up to relax, so I spent the past few weeks here, there and everywhere.

I trekked back to San Diego for the second time in the last month, this time for the Chargers v. Jets game and some Monday Night Football at The Q. Thank God the Bolts finally pulled one out. In my last blog, we talked about making a "what the hell is Brett Favre doing here?" sign... which didn't happen, but at least the guy running the PA gets it. He showed the clip from the movie before the game and we all lost it. I still say we should've made the sign.

There were some absolute heroes at this game... and I'm not talking about the players on the field. The cast of characters in the stands Monday night was all-time. Check the slideshow my buddy made.

From the yahoo that dressed like a broke-down Batman, to the 'seat thieves' to the kid in the orange shirt who did a full lap around the stadium yelling, 'Dar-ren Mc-Fad-den' a week too early (the Bolts played the Raiders six days later), then got knocked out and arrested - I think we spent more time watching the freaks than the actual game.

The 'seat thieves' were unreal. Two New Yorkers who sat in someone else's seats, asked the seat owners to produce their tickets (when asking them to leave), looked at the tickets, pocketed them and told the unsuspecting victims to, "get a cop, yo". All four patrons were ushered out of the area and by no surprise, the New Yorkers won the argument because they were back in 'their' seats by halftime. Out of line, but the best sales pitch I've seen since Ricky Roma swindled James Lingk in "Glengarry Glen Ross", so I think you have to respect that.

Headed home on Tuesday morning and drove out to Palm Springs on Wednesday to get in one more session with Mr. A before hitting the road for four weeks. We worked on my fundamentals and all the stuff we've focused on the past few months. He got me ready to go and I drove back to Scottsdale on Thursday morning.

All of this after spending the previous weekend in Cabo locking down plans for the big December wedding.

Friday night we threw a birthday party for my brother, The Hate and Saturday I headed to Philly to meet up with (Pat) Burrell as the Phillies were playing the Nationals and locking down their Playoff spot.

I went to the Saturday and Sunday night games, where Philly rolled 4-3 and 8-3, after a Friday night 8-3 win. I got to see all the guys and make sure my locker was still in tact.

Today I headed to Verona for this week's event at Turning Stone and playing the next four tourneys. I'm a little behind where I expected to be (on the money list), so I need to make it happen this next month.

The goal is always to get a win, but equally as important is getting into that top thirty so I'm exempt in the next season's majors. I'm currently 71st on the money list, so it's time to get shakin. This week New York then off to Texas (Valero), Las Vegas (TPC Summerlin) and my last event of the year, the Frys.com Open, which is literally in my backyard at Grayhawk.

I'll check back in soon. Time to get to work.

Working with Mr. A

PP checking in here. I have a few weeks off, so I finally have some down time to write. I've been off since Deustche Bank and will be back on the road the first week of October.

I'm playing four straight, looking for a win but at minimum trying to climb into that top 30 for exemptions in 2009. I'm playing Turning Stone (Verona, NY), Valero (San Antonio, TX), Summerlin (Las Vegas) and the Frys (Scottsdale). I need to get over the $2M mark and have four events to make that happen.

I started working with a new coach a few months back, Mike Abbott.

Mr. A has me focusing on flatting my backswing. He wants me to come down through the ball, with my body lower through the ball and the club coming out more left after impact. We're creating a more controlled draw and after a few months, things are finally settling in.

Looking forward to getting back on the road in a few weeks after a few weeks of practice. My ball striking has been fine; especially in Boston. I just need the putter to get hotter.

Above are some shots of Mr. A and I working out in Palm Desert last week at The Madison Club.

Headed to Cabo this week to tie up some wedding loose ends, then to San Diego next Monday to see of the Bolts can rebound against the Jets. An 0-2 start isn't the way anyone expected this season to start out.

I was at The Q for the Panthers game and caught the Denver game on TV. SD choked in the opener and got robbed yesterday. Time to regroup before Favre and New York roll in for Monday Night Football.

I might make a sign that says, "What The Hell Is Brett Favre Doing Here?" An homage to his role in "There's Something About Mary" and the great Pat Healy.

More to come from the road. Go Bolts.

69-69-68-70 at Deustche Bank Championship; T21st

As sometimes happens, the 72nd hole can be the difference-maker.

Pat Perez strung together a 68-68-69 run between Friday and Sunday and needed a final round 69 to qualify for this week's BWM Championship. -2 at the turn, things were looking strong, but a few bogeys down the stretch proved to be the difference bewteen 'game on' and heading home for a few weeks.

Bogeys on #14 and #17 had Perez sitting at even on the day and in need of an eagle on the par-5 #18, or some luck down the stretch regarding other players who were still in action.

After a birdie on #18, the waiting game ensued - with Perez headed to the airport, unsure if he was headed to Scottsdale or St. Louis.

"I was literally at the gate telling the guy to hold my bags, with the flight taking off in 20 minutes," said Perez.

Watching TVs in the terminal and checking the iPhone for updates, Angel Cabrera's birdie on #18 moved him up to 70th and Perez back to 71st, ousting him for week three of the Playoffs.

"Cabrera sunk an eight-footer, so I told the guy at the gate we were good to go and I headed home."

Perez will take a few weeks off before getting back to action mid-October.
